Prosperity What?

Its called the prosperity gospel, and a lot of churches are preaching and teaching on this theology. It is the belief that it is always God’s will for you to be financially blessed and be well physically. The belief that positive speech and faith will bring about only good things in your life and that you can buy, with donations of course to their religious cause, the wealth and blessings that God has for you. Yep, you heard that right. Oh and when you are not healed, well you must not have enough faith. Oh what’s that, your still poor, it must be because you are not giving enough. That is not the true Gospel.

The true Gospel is simple. We are all sinners, saved by the mercy and grace of God through His son Jesus on the cross. That whosoever believes in Him can be saved and have eternal life. That is the true gospel. Jesus didn’t die on the cross so that we may be rich and healthy, He died on that cross to snatch us from the flames of hell.  Let me tell you how the life of Jesus goes against the prosperity gospel.

Jesus was not a wealthy man while He was here on earth. He was born to a carpenter, born in a manger. It does not make sense to say that the will of God is that you will be financially blessed when God’s own son was not even blessed in this way. If anyone had any right to that blessing it would have been King Jesus. Although Jesus was not rich himself, God always provided for him. And that should be our focus, but we want the green so bad that we are willing to go against scripture to attain it.

To say that If you believe in God you will be healed of your infirmities is to say that the persons healing is in their power. God holds the power not us. Yes there are verses in the bible where it says ” your faith has healed you.” But it was God’s will initially to heal and it was faith in Him that brought about that miracle. It wasn’t faith that healed it was the power of God and His initial will for healing. What if its not God’s will for you to be healed but to accept that God’s grace is enough as the apostle Paul stated for his thorn in the flesh.

Jesus tells us with His word that in this life we will have tribulation. That means that in this life we will have troubles. None are exempt from this, not the apostles not even Jesus himself . The apostles were always persecuted, some died a horrible death. And Jesus, he wasn’t exempt from pain. He felt everything that day on the cross when he paid for our sins. So how can we believe that in this fallen world we are all suppose to be financially blessed, with good health and all we have to do to have a good life is practice some positive speech and it will all come our way . Oh and if we are able to buy our blessings and get our prayers fulfilled for a small donation then does that mean that God is for sale?

All this does not add up, yet we are eating it up and having second helpings. And why are we doing this? Because the prosperity gospel feeds our flesh not our soul. There’s a story in the bible where Jesus flips the tables at the temple of the money changers and the seats of those selling sacrifices. He does this because His people are being taken advantage of, their being ripped off . As He does this He says “My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves.” Who are these thieves? The pastors teaching the prosperity gospel. Filling their pockets with the money of debtors, of hopefuls, with the money of the sick. Stealing away the true salvation of these people who are being strayed away.Building their mega churches wearing their high end threads.

Friend, the gospel is simple. Any addition to the gospel is not the gospel of Jesus Christ.
